AFL Rising Star Nominee: Heath Shaw

Young Collingwood defender Heath Shaw is the round five nominee for the NAB AFL Rising Star award.

The 20-year-old, who played six matches in 2005, has impressed for the Magpies at senior level, picking up 25 possessions in the Anzac Day victory over Essendon and another 23 touches in the round five win over Port Adelaide.

Shaw, the son of former Collingwood captain Ray Shaw and younger brother of Magpies midfielder Rhyce, was drafted by the Pies under the father-son rule in the 2003 NAB AFL Draft.

Shaw has played four matches for Collingwood in 2006 and is looking forward to playing alongside Rhyce once his older brother returns to senior action after his rehabilitation from a knee reconstruction.

Shaw Says :

About playing with Rhyce,
"We sort of missed out last year with Rhyce playing a really good first half of the year and then getting injured," Heath said."I played a little bit of the second half of the year so it was not the best timing but hopefully at some stage this year (we can play together)."

"They're continually playing well and you've got to perform each week because you never know what's going to happen the next week."I hope to cement my spot in the next couple of weeks by playing really good football."
